I bought a mac just the other day, and upgraded immediately to snow leopard. Everything went fine, until I tried to watch a DVD. The “DVD Player” application tried to start, but then died with the following error

There was an initialization error. The current machine or system configuration is not supported [-70013]

I dug around in Google for a while, but couldn’t find anything valuable.

Then I checked apple’s support forums, and there was this post

It worked like a charm! Good luck!

  • Gmail Notifier - Refresh Interval

I believe its default is set to 10min (way to long for a professional-use application).

Here’s a great tutorial on how to change the auto-refresh interval. It’s easy and takes about 2 mins.

Note: The only thing left out, is that you need to quit the notifier, and restart it for the preferences to take effect.

  • MySQL - dumping extremely large databases

Spent a bit of time figuring this one out…

If you’re going to need to dump a very large mysql database, you’ll probably need to use “–single-transaction” to make it work.

    mysqldump -u [username] -p --single-transaction [database name] > [your dump file].sql

  • Installing subversion on bluehost

I just set up my account with bluehost. I’m moving from GoDaddy.com mostly due to their sleezy advertising practices. It also helps that I’ll save $40/year right off the bat from bluehost’s free domain privacy registrations.

If you want to check them out, and sign up, do that here.

I wanted to install subversion, so that I could build a website properly (version controlled, easy dev server setup, etc…)

I found a great tutorial for installing subversion on bluehost.com below.

It worked great for me, installing 1.6.4. Hopefully this helps point people in the right direction.

Here’s the gun we just purchased!

We decided it was time to purchase a handgun before we actually may need it, or this Congress and Administration makes unconstitutional laws regarding them. It really is time to act now.

…I guess not so much any more. Here’s a very interesting video I ran across today on my lunch break.

I think it’s pretty neat and all, but really wonder how good this can be for your health — if we start doing what they suggest in the video.

    What’s your thoughts?

This looks like a great little plane! Only costs $140K, so I’m thinking of picking one up next weekend (I’m busy picking up my jaguar this weekend) :o)

Here’s a more detailed article on it

For probably all of those who know me, you know I love military aircraft, especially fighter jets.

Tonight, I found this great video while Eden was awake as ever at 2am :o) If you’ve got a few minutes to get sucked into an amazing movie, feel free to take a look!
